I bought a pair of Justin boots in a little boutique shop next to Twitty City in Hendersonville in 1988. Still have them! They're 10D's, style #8549 black, and have a registration number stamped on the inside lining: 25980. Several months after buying them ($299 on sale) I had relatives visiting from Reno. I took them to a matinee show at the Opry House headlined by Randy Travis, and of course wore my new boots. Well, Roy Acuff was hosting, and he brought out Randy almost immediately. Before he sang the first note, he apologized in advance for any sour notes, because he had to borrow someone's shoes backstage, and they were a size too small. It's not exactly my character, but I impulsively pulled off one of my boots, stood up from my second row seat and held it high for him to see. He walked over to the front edge of the stage, said, "Let me see it," and then asked for the other one. All he said was, "Is this leather?" and cracked that patented smile when I replied, "Elephant." Thanks to Justin Boots, he never missed a note.
