Beginning this December Justin Boot Company is recognizing one of the previous monthly Justin Salutes winners as the 2013 Young Horseman or Horsewoman of the Year.
Hope Petry is the initial winner of this new year-end award, which recognizes outstanding leadership skills in equine education and activities.
Hope, who was recognized in the August issue of Western Horseman, is the daughter of Sheila and Paul Petry of Hudson, Iowa. Hope completed her senior year of high school in 2013 and is now a freshman at South Dakota State University, where she has enrolled in the preveterinary science program.
In addition to being valedictorian of her high school class, Hope also was presented with other honors upon graduation. She received the Governor's Scholar Award, Iowa Bar Citizenship Award, DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award, DAR Good Citizens Award and the Hudson High School Sportsmanship Award.
While in high school, Hope qualified two times for the National High School Finals Rodeo, became the Iowa High School Rodeo Association's reserve all-around cowgirl, served twice as IHSRA president and also represented the association as its queen two times.
Now a member of the South Dakota State rodeo team, Hope currently stands fourth in goat-tying competition in the Great Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
Justin Boot Company and Western Horseman congratulate Hope on her impressive accomplishments and wish her good luck in the future.
