About Chet Weitz

Growing up in London, Texas, Chet had a very diverse childhood. He grew up on his family’s hunting ranch, learning both the hunting and rodeo lifestyles. While his father wasn’t always a cowboy, he was and still is a hunting guide, providing opportunities for Chet to spend much time outdoors. However, his father's longing for the Western lifestyle and his mother's prowess in roping set the stage for his immersion into the rodeo world. His mom is an avid team roper and is known to have helped Chet get his start in rodeo. From swinging a rope at a mere 16 months old to clinching his first saddle at a Las Vegas dummy roping event at age three, Chet's passion and talent for roping were evident from the start.

Chet grew up competing in junior rodeo, junior high school rodeo, and high school rodeo, where he gained experience feeling the pressure of competing at all levels and in diverse arenas. He even went on to compete in college rodeo as well. When he made the transition into the PRCA, his journey to rodeo success was marked by determination and unwavering faith, even in the face of setbacks like a shoulder injury that sidelined him for months. With the support of family and friends, Chet navigated the challenges of balancing college with his rodeo aspirations, emerging as a formidable competitor in both calf roping and team roping. His dedication to his craft extends beyond the arena, with Chet understanding the importance of providing top-notch care to his equine partners, including his seasoned heading horses Ben Johnson, Spider-Man, and Nightlinger. In calf roping, he uses two main mounts: Money and Mike.

Chet has amassed an impressive list of achievements, including victories at rodeos like the Waller County Fair & Rodeo in Hempstead, Texas. His career highlights speak volumes, with notable wins, including the all-around titles at the Black Gold Stampede in Henderson, Texas, the Texas Circuit Finals in Waco, and the Sandhills Stock Show & Rodeo in Odessa, Texas, among others.

Looking ahead, Chet remains focused on his goals, aiming to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo in both calf roping and team roping. His advice to aspiring rodeo athletes reflects his own journey: “Stay humble, keep pushing forward, and put God first,” Weitz said. With faith as his compass and hard work as his guiding principle, Chet Weitz continues to inspire others with his unyielding pursuit of excellence in and out of the rodeo arena.
