Hailing from Lamar, Colorado, Shali has carved a name for herself in the competitive world of professional rodeo, particularly the Women's Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) events.

In 2005, Shali made a splash in the rodeo world by competing in her first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR). Not only did she compete, but she also claimed victory in multiple rounds, including an impressive streak of three consecutive wins. This achievement was a testament to her exceptional talent and set the stage for her future in rodeo.

Over the years, Shali consistently delivered awe-inspiring performances. In 2019, she entered the NFR ranked fourth. Her journey in the 2019 NFR included placements in four out of ten rounds, and she finished fifth in the average, ending the season ranked ninth with $173,391 in earnings. Notably, she also won the year-end title in the Mountain States Circuit, reinforcing her status as one of the best in the business.

Shali's success extended beyond individual events. In 2019, she won the American Royal Pro Rodeo in Kansas City, Missouri, and secured victories in prestigious rodeos such as the Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo, West Jordan Western Stampede, Buffalo Bill Rodeo, and the Rodeo de Santa Fe in New Mexico.

One of the defining aspects of Shali's rodeo career has been her incredible partnership with her horses. Among her trusted steeds are "Freckles Ta Fame" or "Can Man," a 14-year-old stallion, and "Frosted in Fame" or "CeCe," a 12-year-old mare. Both horses have pedigrees that speak of speed and agility, with lineage connecting to legendary sire "Dash Ta Fame."

Can Man, a beloved partner, received acclaim in the Purina Horse of the Year voting in 2019, finishing in a tie for third place. His excellence in the arena has contributed significantly to Shali's success. Shali's connection with her horses is a testament to the deep and unique relationship between a rodeo athlete and their equine counterpart.

Beyond the rodeo arena, Shali is a dedicated wife to Phy, a PRCA tie-down roper, and a loving mother to their children, Slade and Steely. Her family provides unwavering support and inspiration, highlighting the importance of family in her life.

Her parents, Jim and Lesli Nichols, also have a deep connection to the rodeo world. Jim, a former Director of Rodeo Administration for the PRCA, and Lesli, who previously worked for the National Little Britches Association, instilled in Shali a profound love for the sport. Their guidance and support have played a crucial role in her rodeo journey.

In addition to her rodeo career, Shali is also an entrepreneur. She co-owns Retro Ranch, a business specializing in jewelry and apparel. Her business acumen demonstrates her versatility and her ability to balance the demands of rodeo with entrepreneurial pursuits.
